THERAPY & SUPPORT

"You don't have to be in crisis to benefit from therapy."
One of the most common questions people ask is:
"Do I really need therapy?"
Maybe you've been feeling anxious.
Overwhelmed.
Stuck.
Emotionally exhausted.
Or perhaps you're navigating a difficult relationship, parenting challenges, grief, or a major life transition.
Part of you wonders if talking with someone would help.
Another part says:
"Maybe I should just figure this out myself."
The truth is, many people wait far longer than they need to before reaching out for support.
Therapy isn't reserved for people who are falling apart.
It's for anyone who wants to better understand themselves, develop healthier ways of coping, or navigate life's challenges with greater confidence.
Therapy Isn't Just for Mental Illness
One of the biggest misconceptions is that therapy is only for people experiencing severe mental health concerns.
While therapy certainly supports people living with anxiety, depression, trauma, or other mental health conditions, that's only part of the picture.
People also seek therapy when they're:
· feeling overwhelmed
· struggling with parenting
· experiencing relationship difficulties
· adjusting to life changes
· grieving
· feeling emotionally stuck
· navigating work stress
· trying to better understand themselves
· wanting healthier relationships
· seeking personal growth
Sometimes therapy isn't about fixing something that's broken.
Sometimes it's about helping something healthy become even stronger.
You Don't Need to Have All the Answers
Many people delay reaching out because they believe they should already know what's wrong.
You don't need a diagnosis.
You don't need the perfect explanation.
You don't even need to know exactly what you want to talk about.
Sometimes your first session is simply about making sense of what's been feeling difficult.
That's perfectly okay.
Signs That Therapy May Be Helpful
You might benefit from speaking with a therapist if you notice that:
· your worries feel difficult to manage
· stress is affecting your sleep or daily life
· emotions feel overwhelming
· you're finding it difficult to enjoy things you once loved
· relationships feel increasingly challenging
· you're stuck in patterns that don't seem to change
· you've experienced something painful that continues to affect you
· parenting feels exhausting or confusing
· you're constantly questioning yourself
· you simply feel like something isn't quite right
You don't have to wait until things become unbearable.
Early support often prevents challenges from becoming bigger over time.
Not Everyone Needs Ongoing Therapy
This surprises many people.
Sometimes people assume therapy automatically means weekly appointments for months - or even years.
For some people, ongoing therapy is exactly what's needed.
For others, it isn't.
The right support depends on your goals, your circumstances, and the type of help you're looking for.
Option One - Single Session Therapy
Sometimes one focused conversation is enough to create meaningful change.
Single Session Therapy is designed for people who are looking for:
· clarity
· practical strategies
· a fresh perspective
· help making an important decision
· support navigating a specific challenge
Rather than assuming you'll return week after week, we make the most of one extended session.
Many people leave with greater confidence, practical tools, and a clear direction for moving forward.
Option Two - Brief Therapy
Sometimes one session isn't quite enough - but long-term therapy isn't necessary either.
Brief Therapy is designed for people who would benefit from focused support over a short period of time. Together, we'll identify clear goals, develop practical strategies, and work toward meaningful progress without the expectation of ongoing therapy.
For many concerns, lasting change doesn't require years of counselling. It requires the right approach, a strong therapeutic relationship, and a clear understanding of what will be most helpful.
Many of my clients reach their goals in fewer than ten sessions.
Brief Therapy may be a good fit if you're:
· working through a specific challenge
· experiencing anxiety or stress
· adjusting to a life transition
· developing healthier coping strategies
· wanting support while building confidence and momentum
· looking for focused, goal-oriented therapy
Option Three - A Parent Strategy Intensive
Sometimes the person who needs support isn't the child.
It's the parent.
If you're feeling overwhelmed by your child's anxiety, emotional outbursts, behavioural challenges, or school struggles, a Parent Strategy Intensive offers an opportunity to slow down, understand what's happening, and develop a personalized plan.
Many parents tell me that understanding why their child behaves the way they do changes everything.
Option Four - Ongoing Therapy
There are times when ongoing therapy is the most appropriate choice.
This may be helpful if you're:
· healing from trauma
· experiencing persistent anxiety or depression
· navigating complex relationship concerns
· working through long-standing patterns
· wanting continued support while making meaningful life changes
Therapy isn't about how many sessions you attend.
It's about receiving the right level of support for your unique circumstances.
There Isn't One Right Answer
One of the questions I hear most often is:
"How many sessions will I need?"
The honest answer is - It depends.
Some people achieve exactly what they need in one focused consultation.
Others benefit from a short course of Brief Therapy over several sessions.
Others appreciate longer-term support.
There isn't one "right" number of sessions. The goal is to provide the level of support that best fits your needs while helping you move toward meaningful, lasting change.
Good therapy isn't measured by the number of appointments.
It's measured by whether you're moving toward the life you want to live.
What If I'm Not Sure Which Service Is Right?
You don't have to decide on your own.
One of the reasons I offer a complimentary 15-minute consultation is to help people determine which approach best fits their needs.
Sometimes we'll decide that Single Session Therapy is the best place to start.
Sometimes Brief Therapy provides exactly the right amount of support.
Sometimes a Parent Strategy Intensive is the most appropriate option.
And sometimes ongoing psychotherapy is the best fit for more complex or longer-standing concerns.
Together, we'll determine what feels like the right fit.
Therapy Is an Investment in Understanding
One of my favourite parts of this work is watching people begin to understand themselves differently.
Instead of asking:
"What's wrong with me?"
They begin asking:
"What has my nervous system been trying to protect me from?"
"What is my behaviour communicating?"
"What would it look like to respond with greater compassion?"
Those questions often become the beginning of meaningful change.
You Don't Have to Wait Until You're Overwhelmed
Many people believe they should only seek therapy when they're in crisis.
The reality is that therapy can be just as valuable for prevention, personal growth, and navigating life's everyday challenges.
You don't have to carry everything on your own.
Sometimes one conversation can make all the difference.
Sometimes healing takes longer.
Neither is right or wrong.
What's most important is finding the support that's right for you.
Still Unsure?
If you're wondering whether therapy could help - or which type of support would best fit your situation - I invite you to book a complimentary 15-minute consultation.
Together, we'll talk about what's been happening, answer your questions, and determine whether Single Session Therapy, Brief Therapy, a Parent Strategy Intensive, or ongoing psychotherapy is the approach that best fits your goals and current needs.
Because understanding the struggle helps you understand the why...
...and once we understand the why, we can begin discovering the how.
