Thoughtful guidance for parents who want to better understand and support their child.

Parenting can be incredibly rewarding - and incredibly challenging. Sometimes what parents need most isn't ongoing therapy for themselves or their child, but dedicated time with a professional to better understand what's happening and develop a practical, compassionate plan.

A Parent Intensive Consultation is a 90-minute consultation designed specifically for parents and caregivers who are seeking guidance around their child's emotional, behavioural, or relational needs.

Whether your child is experiencing anxiety, emotional outbursts, school difficulties, social challenges, sensory differences, ADHD, emotional regulation concerns, or family conflict, this consultation offers an opportunity to step back, explore the bigger picture, and identify practical strategies that fit your family's unique circumstances.

Rather than focusing on changing your child, you'll work together with your therapist to understand what may be driving their behaviour, how their nervous system is responding to stress, and how you can respond in ways that strengthen connection, safety, and regulation.

Drawing from attachment theory, developmental psychology, family systems, and neuroscience, you and your therapist will explore your child's strengths alongside the challenges, helping you make sense of behaviours that may previously have felt confusing or overwhelming.

This consultation may be right for you if you:

· Feel unsure how to respond to your child's behaviours.

· Want practical parenting strategies that align with your values.

· Need guidance while waiting for therapy or other services.

· Feel stuck despite trying different parenting approaches.

· Want to better understand your child's emotional or behavioural needs.

· Are navigating family transitions or significant life changes.

· Would like professional consultation without committing to ongoing parent coaching.

What to Expect

Before your appointment, you'll complete a detailed intake questionnaire to help me understand your child's history, your concerns, and your goals for the consultation.

During our 90-minute consultation, we'll:

· Clarify your primary concerns.

· Explore patterns within your child's behaviour and your family's interactions.

· Identify contributing factors and strengths.

· Discuss attachment, nervous system regulation, and developmental considerations where appropriate.

· Develop practical strategies tailored to your family.

· Create a realistic action plan for moving forward.

Following the consultation, you'll receive a personalized Parent Consultation Summary outlining the key themes discussed, recommendations, practical strategies, and suggested next steps.

A Collaborative, Compassionate Approach

Every child makes sense in the context of their experiences, relationships, and nervous system. The Parent Intensive Consultation is to help you better understand those experiences so you can respond with greater confidence, connection, and compassion.

You know your child best. Working with your therapist's clinical knowledge, perspective, and guidance, together you will build on the strengths your family already has.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this therapy?

A Parent Strategy Intensive is a consultation designed specifically for parents and caregivers. Rather than providing ongoing psychotherapy, this service focuses on helping you better understand your child's behaviour, emotions, and needs while developing practical, personalized strategies you can begin using immediately. If ongoing therapy would be beneficial, we'll discuss those options together. However, many families find that one focused consultation provides the clarity and direction they were looking for.

Is one session enough?

For many families, yes. Sometimes parents don't need months of therapy - they need a deeper understanding of what's happening and a clear plan for moving forward. Many parents leave feeling more confident because they finally understand why their child is struggling and how to respond in ways that support lasting change. Some families choose to schedule additional sessions later, while others find the consultation gives them everything they need.

What happens during the consultation?

Before we meet, you'll complete a brief questionnaire so I can begin understanding your family's concerns. During our 90-minute consultation, we'll explore:

• Your child's strengths.

• Your concerns and goals.

• Emotional and behavioural patterns.

• What's already been tried.

• Possible contributing factors.

• Practical strategies tailored specifically to your family.

The consultation is collaborative, supportive and designed to help you leave with greater clarity, confidence and a practical plan you can begin using immediately.

Will my child attend?

In most cases, no. This consultation is designed specifically for parents and caregivers. Meeting without your child allows us to have an open, honest conversation about your concerns, explore family dynamics and develop strategies without placing your child in the middle of those discussions. If involving your child would be clinically beneficial, we'll discuss that together.

What do I receive afterward?

Unless otherwise agreed on, within 24-48 hours, you'll receive a personalized written summary that includes:

• The key themes we discussed.

• Practical recommendations.

• Parenting strategies tailored to your child.

• Helpful resources.

• Suggested next steps.

Many parents tell me this becomes a valuable reference they return to whenever they need guidance or reassurance.

How is this different from weekly therapy?

Weekly therapy provides ongoing support over time and is often the best option when a child or family requires continued therapeutic intervention. A Parent Strategy Intensive serves a different purpose. It is designed to provide focused guidance, education and practical strategies within a single extended consultation. Think of it as pressing the pause button - taking the time to understand what's happening beneath the surface, make sense of your child's behaviour and develop a personalized roadmap before deciding whether additional support is needed. For some families, this consultation is all they need. Others choose to use it as the starting point for ongoing therapy.

Can both parents attend?

Absolutely. Whenever possible, I encourage both parents or caregivers to attend. Having a shared understanding of your child's needs and a common approach at home often leads to greater consistency and confidence. If only one parent is able to attend, the consultation can still be incredibly valuable.
