Single Session Therapy in Ontario
Gain clarity, meaningful insight and a practical plan in one focused session.
When One Conversation Can Make a Meaningful Difference -
without committing to ongoing therapy
Sometimes you don't need months of counselling to take the next step. Sometimes you need dedicated time with a therapist to understand what's happening, make sense of it, and leave with a clear direction.
A Single Session Therapy Consultation is a focused 90-minute appointment designed to help you explore one primary concern in depth. Whether you're feeling overwhelmed, facing a difficult decision, navigating relationship challenges, struggling with anxiety or stress, or simply feeling stuck, this session provides the space to pause, reflect, and move forward with intention.
Together, you'll work with your therapist to understand not only what is happening but also why it may be happening. You'll explore patterns, emotions, nervous system responses, strengths, and the factors that may be keeping you feeling stuck. Throughout the session, together you’ll draw from attachment theory, neuroscience, family systems, and strengths-based approaches to help make sense of your experience in a compassionate and practical way.
The goal isn't to solve every problem in one appointment. Instead, it's to help you leave with greater clarity, meaningful insight, and realistic next steps that feel manageable and aligned with your goals.
This consultation may be right for you if you:
· Feel overwhelmed and don't know where to begin.
· Want guidance before deciding whether ongoing therapy is right for you.
· Are navigating a life transition, relationship issue, or difficult decision.
· Want to better understand recurring emotional or behavioural patterns.
· Are looking for focused support around a specific challenge.
· Have attended therapy before and would benefit from a fresh perspective.
· Prefer a brief, solution-focused approach.
What to Expect
Before your appointment, you'll complete an intake form that helps your therapist understand your concerns and allows them to make the most of your time together.
During your 90-minute consultation, together you will:
· Clarify your primary concern and goals.
· Explore the patterns contributing to the problem.
· Identify strengths and protective factors.
· Develop a deeper understanding of what's happening.
· Discuss practical strategies and next steps.
· Identify one or two realistic actions to focus on after the session.
Following your consultation, you'll receive a personalized written Therapy Roadmap summarizing the key themes, insights, recommendations, and agreed-upon next steps from your conversation.
Is One Session Enough?
For many people, one focused conversation provides the clarity and direction they were looking for. Others may decide that ongoing counselling would be helpful. If additional support would benefit you, you'll discuss the options together at the end of your consultation.
The goal is to provide the right level of support for your needs - not more than you need, and not less.

You May Be Wondering...
Is one session really enough?
For many people, yes. Single Session Therapy is based on the understanding that one focused, intentional conversation can often provide meaningful insight, practical strategies and a clear direction for moving forward. While some concerns benefit from ongoing therapy, many people leave a single session feeling they have the clarity and confidence they were looking for. If additional support would be helpful, that option is always available.
What happens during the session?
Before we meet, you'll complete a brief intake questionnaire so I can begin understanding your concerns and goals. During our 90-minute session, we'll explore:
• Your primary concerns and what you'd like to accomplish.
• The factors contributing to the situation.
• Patterns or perspectives you may not have considered.
• Your strengths and existing resources.
• Practical strategies and next steps tailored to your needs.
My goal is for you to leave feeling understood, informed, and equipped with practical ideas you can begin using immediately.
What will I receive afterward?
Within 24–48 hours, you'll receive a personalized written summary that includes:
• The key themes from our discussion.
• Practical recommendations.
• Personalized strategies.
• Helpful resources.
• Suggested next steps.
Many clients tell me they return to this summary again and again as they continue applying what we discussed during the session.
What if I need more support?
One session doesn't have to be your only session. Some people achieve exactly what they hoped to in a single consultation, while others choose to book additional sessions or transition into ongoing therapy. Together, we'll determine what feels most appropriate based on your needs and goals. There is never any pressure or expectation to continue beyond what feels helpful for you.
How is this different from traditional weekly therapy?
Traditional therapy is designed to provide ongoing support over time, allowing space to explore challenges in greater depth as they unfold. Single Session Therapy takes a different approach. Rather than assuming there will be another appointment, we approach the session with the intention of making it as meaningful and complete as possible. The focus is on helping you leave with greater understanding, practical strategies, and a clear plan for moving forward.
What kinds of concerns are appropriate for Single Session Therapy?
